Mark and Claire Woods’ restaurant at the Darcy Mc Gee Courtyard Dundalk Street Carlingford Co Louth has a great following. Although small, seating 42, it packs a mighty punch; it's amazing how much variety Mark manages to create in his kitchen with the aid of Dave Mc Murray his right hand chef, and Kiri Hanratty their pastry chef, and how well Claire manages the service - they are widely praised for producing what is regarded by many as the most exciting food in the area.
The visitor will thrill to their modern menus beginning with a "Pork Spring Roll, Hoi sin, pepper coulis, and basil oil" and a selection of eleven starters (''Confit of Duck leg, noodle rosti, roast chorizo oil and sweet soy'', ''Tomato and Basil tagliatelle with fresh parmesan in a white wine sauce'', and ''Fried crab cakes with pepper coulis, basil mayonnaise and house salad''. Local mussels slowly simmered in the finest of cream and white wine with a hint of garlic are all likely), while a similar number of main courses offers dressed up old favorites like sirloin steak (with potato rösti, garlic & parsley butter and onion sauce) alongside ideas from further afield like Thai spiced pork with sticky rice, curry oil, sweet soy & Asian salad. See and taste his fish specials cooked so delicately as to be described only as delicious. There are quite a few vegetarian dishes (probably including a house special).
Desserts are now a specialty (see their mouth watering menu above) but the wine list is another surprise for this place - not long by some standards, but interesting varied and fairly priced. Pricing generally is very reasonable and the minimum charge given on the menu is fair. Suitable for all .Families ,Couples and Groups.
